Phase II Subsurface Investigations
Environmental Site Assessment continues with Phase II Subsurface Investigations, an “intrusive” investigation which collects original samples of soil, groundwater or building materials to analyze for quantitative values of various contaminants. This investigation is normally undertaken when a Phase I ESA determines a likelihood of site contamination. The most frequent substances tested are petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy metals, pesticides, solvents, asbestos and mold.
All samples are analyzed by state-of-the-art laboratories certified by the appropriate regulatory agencies to identify potential impacts from on-site or off-site uses.
- Obtain required permits
- Prepare a site specific health and safety plan
- Obtain utility clearance prior to sampling
- Collect soil, soil vapor and/or groundwater samples
- Analyze samples from regulated chemical constituents
- Prepare a comprehensive report of findings
- Interface with regulatory agencies
- Recommend additional investigations and/or remediation if necessary
